IB MR DUCKS!
There is a board online that indicates who is at each process. On the board today in the middle of the process was "IB MR DUCKS" I didn't know what it meant... the line manager asked me if I knew the West Virginia slang.... I had to say "no". That is when he let me in on the secret; said translated from the WV accent it sound like "I'll be, them are ducks" That was the start of my second day one the line. One person gave me one of their hats so I would matched all the line workers hats. I felt so cool. Brian saw my hat and asked for one from his manager. HE got one from administration. So now we both have hates. We don't have uniforms, toyota buys Polos and pants for everyone and puts their names on it. It makes it easy to call people by name.
My fingers are sore today. Each day Thermostates need gaskets and 2 different hoses need clips. There are 500 engines built each shift and each part needs to be assembled. I built these items all day while checking some studs for burrs and putting in a clutch plate. I am trying to keep busy and help out. I also learned how to do the quality check inpection done 4 times a day. The line manager and team manager told me after the shift that they were impressed with how much work I was doing. They asked me not to leave.... I don't think I could keep up the pace... I am about to be broken. They also asked if Queso would be doing as much work.... I had to tell them that I wouldn't expect him to do more than he was told (i jumped into the assembly tasks because I had free time) ... i didn't tell them that he was useles with tools and not very quick. It seemed that he mostly followed his team manager. He even had time to visit me twice. I also was complimented because I was able to learn the one process all by myself. It was pretty cool. Tomorrow is my last day for this line. I am starting early 515 to learn some quality checks.
After not wanting to be here... I worked to change my attitude to realized that I will only get out what I put in. I only have a few more days to learn things from this process. It has been a lot of fun to learn to work with the people, learn about the process, and even learn about the problems of the componant's designs. I hope I can take some information back and apply some of the things I have learned. That is if i live through next week, and the motrin continues to releave my soreness.
I haven't mentinoed that the sun has not shined since I have arrived. I am hoping for some sun this weekend. It would be nice to have some sun with all the wack things this state has to offer. I would at least like to see some of the mountains.
Time to sleep... the line starts early in the morning
