Land of the Rising Sun!
So the sun rises at 5, which means it starts coming up a little earlier than that. THere are dark curtains on the windows but the light so bright it is hard to sleep past 5am. THe sun is quite strong as I go to work.
Today Jan left. It is sad to have no one to talk with again. Training today was quite complicated. The english version of the software didn't work in the morning so as I was trying to learn what the instructor was telling us by waiting for the translation, I also had to keep track of all the positions in the menus that she was selecting. It made things very tricky. It worked in the afternoon but my brain was toast... i hardly made it through the day. As I was waiting for my train to come home this woman next to me had a seisure. One woman standing between us got down to help here and i turned to get the attention of another person, but by then the seisure person was getting off the ground and jumped on to the train like nothing happened. It was a feeling of helplessness, i don't know how people react here to things and then she just jumped on like nothing happened and the woman who helped her did the same thing. It was strange.
We were asked to send regular reports to MI. Tom was complaining to day that mine weren't regular enough they should be daily (it took 3 weeks to notice) and dufus hadn't been checking in at all. So tomorrow when I go to work we will see the result of the MI people finding out of Dufus' lack of progress. Ted told me that people would be asking me why I couldn't fix the problem with Dufus. Really, i feel that is a crazy expectation. I helped him when he asked and when I could but the kid didn't get the information at all. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink, even if he needs too! And it is a little crazy to think that all the resources are going to supporting the lesser learner. If people had spent the time with me that they are spending with Dufus I would be an Pro/E master upon my return!
So, with Ted's response so far I am not excited about the response from MI. I did shoot them an email that said I have been trying to help Dufus understand but I am having trouble understanding his problems and when I do answer his questions and he says he understands he asks the same question the next day. Maybe the will have some advice. I mean the kid is a college graduate, he has to learn someway....

While being a team player is important, you're not his mommy. You shouldn't have to hold his hand and he needs to take responsibility for things. There's nothing you can do if he doesn't ask for help or says he understands when he doesn't.
I'm convinced he's a fraud. No one could be that dumb and make it through Engineering School.
I wonder if they will also pay you babysititing wages. I would try to convey that kid feels that he indeed know the answers and that he would be totally put upon if you were to force him to listen to you. After all you both were hired because you both appeared to be so brigtht.Mybe you can remind them that a pear tree can never give apples,no matter how much you try to fix the tree. besos,yo
