Big Ice Cream Sandwiches!
Yesterday I had a pity party for myself. I felt like being here sucked. I only invited my mom to this party.
Today, I am doing much better. I am liking Japan today. It is kind of crazy to think that I am operating in such a different place. It feels like I was taken out of time and put into this reality. It isn't bad, just different. But what excites me most is that I will be leaving!
I told Dufus that I would prefer it if he would not mention my name when he tells stories or makes statements. He usually is making ignorant/ innaccurate statements that don't want to be associated with. I just said that I didn't always agree with what he was saying so please stop mentioning my name. He then asked what else he was doing wrong or things that would create stress. I don't feel it is my job to fix the kid... though i do have a list of things... I just mentioned that he should be concious of respecting people's space and environment because it is very important here. AKA stop biting your nails all the time, touchign things with germy fingers, and spitting out the nails you choose not to eat!
We went out with my Boss for dinner because he leaves tomorrow, he paid and i ate a lot. I had a small plate of fruit, which in America is a large plate of fruit. IT came with a sparkler and delicious. I am happy because i am full. It definately beats the cookies and coke I had for dinner last night.
I think Dufus may be done with me too. He is going into work a half hour earlier tomorrow. i think this may be becuase he is trying to be better at the program than I am. I enjoy my sleep and don't feel like I need to rush to work. I also am much better than he is at this program... but that is because I am very smart!
LEARNED
So there is a sort of Gargle Fountain. My US manager said not to drink it, but he couldn't explain what it was.... I am curious about it. People gargle the water but I don't know what it could be.
Doors "pull" in Japan. In the US they usually push, i think for fire safety in america. I keep trying to push before I pull.
I learned more drawing stuff... it is easy. I will have to start studying for my test monday to be sure I know all the required information.
LIKED
I got an ice cream sandwich after lunch. Everyone gets them... first it is about 4X6..Huge.. with a waffel on the out side, a chocolate layer surrounding the ice cream. It was very good. THe guy who brings me stuff... Sogutani-san, brought me more treats today. He found out i really liked the treat he gave me yesterday and he bought a whole box. He really likes me.... and he gave me detailed instructions on how to buy a train ticket! I really like him

glad to hear you are feeling better - ignore "the dufus" and try to enjoy yourself - who knows if you will ever be back in Japan. And, get Yumiko to buy you food so you don't have to starve - that would actually be my biggest fear of going to a new country for a month!!!
It's gonna take that asshat the extra 30 minutes to get BACK to work when he misses the stop the first time and has to change trains, come back, and then find the bus. Not to mention, think of how much you'll be appreciated when you show up after he's been there for 30 minutes without you. I can only imagine that they only reason people even remotely tolerate him is because you are there to buffer his idiocy. Alone, he might end up fired sooner rather than later.
Good to hear you are back on the wagon and enjoying the total surreal nature of the experience. I know *exactly* what you are saying how it feels like you've been put on another planet. Not sure many people get to experience something so dramatic where you can't even recognize the characters used on the signs and have you rely on subtitles or international icons to help you understand your surroundings. At least in Europe, they use the Roman character set.
Btw, do they still turn off their headlights at stop lights at night? That was one of the kewlest things I saw while I was there. Also, you haven't reported back on the beer vending machines. Have you seen one yet???
Still looking for a beer vending machine. I think my train stop is rather lame... I plan on purchasing a beer as soon as I find one.
And take a picture! ;)
