Age of Aguarius

I have no picture so i am using a colored font today... So Michael mentioned that he uses to like this drink called "Aquarius" so i went to the store to try it. I don't know if i got what he drank but its like a Gatorade type drink. It kind of tastes like sugary grapefruit. It isn't a bad drink, there isn't anything like it that i have tried in the US. Speaking of drinks. So Co-worker is always drinking coffee. He also is pacticing Japanese words... He nose about 7 words and uses them all the time. He learned some from a hand book that Toyota gave us but he also tries to learn words from other people. Unfortunately, he doesn't hear/listen to what people are saying. My manager was teaching him how to say Coffee (because he is ALWAYS drinking it)... this if how the conversation went:
CW: how do you say coffee in Japanese?
MGR: Coffee... it is just "Koh hee"?
CW: oh, that is easy: Koh HEY!
MGR: Koh HEE.
CW: I need some Koh HEY!
The manager didn't try to correct him again.
He says "Koh HEY" all the time... It drives me crazy! Coffee and "Koh hee" almost sound the same... drop the f's: Co ee. he did the same to me...
I said "mahta ashta": until tomorrow....
CW : what was that word you used "ja na me ta?"
RM: no "Mahta Ashta" (thinking: how did he hear Ja ne me ta? they don't even sound close)
CW: Oh.!

Today i took notes about Japan to make sure i had things to write about:
Things i OBSERVED:
  • there are people who stand on the courners in the morning during commuting time at intersections. These people have a yellow flag on a stick. They stick this flag out when people on bikes and walking are about to cross traffic. This it to warn the people driving not to turn into the people. Basically you probably will see the flag.... and either stop or know that you are about to hit someone. I think this is quite helpful for everyone.
  • There is a lunch bell at work. It rings when people are suppost to go to eat lunch and then go back to work. Each group is assigned a time, and the time switches every three months. People go to a cafeteria to eat and then eat at a SUPER fast pace. It may be that I have yet to master the chopsticks but these people are eating super fast... to race back to work. It is said that if people eat slower they would lose weight.... but these people eat at a very rapid rate and are super thin!
  • People go around wearing paper face masks like doctors.... I don't know if they don't want to spread germs or are scared of germs.
  • In Japan it seems that everyone's appreciates their job. Everyone is important to having the world work like it should. It really shows with how efficient things are done. I am finding it quite amazing!
  • My co-worker said he wasn't sick yesterday... just sounded like it i guess.
Things I LIKED or brought me JOY!
  • I woke up by an alarm today... that meant i actually slept for about 6 hours. Almost doubling the previous 3 night's sleep!
  • I am reading a book called Dave Barry Does Japan. I read it on the train to work. It was written almost 15 years ago about Dave Barry's trip to Japan... and many of the observations remain true. I find myself almost laughing out loud at points... but I would wake up the rest of the people on the train!
  • I tried a new button on the vending machine... it is all drinks. I told Co-worker of my game and he said that he was going to stick to coffee. So I picked a button with a cup of liquid and some happy birds (i don't know why there were happy birds). .. this button meant a carmel coffee. It was a success, i liked it! Brian was then dissappointed with his coffee and went to get the same thing i had. Dude, I don't think this kid does anything that no one he knows has done before.
  • We left work at around 630 and decided to get food in Nagoya. We went to a store by our hotel because my friend Praba said they would have food... so we tried it. There was a lot of choices. I was so excited to pick up and hold some food before i decided i wanted it. I got ice cream, mango juice, aquarius, and some tofu rice things. This trip to the store was the best thing so far. Spent about $10 but I got some snacks and some food that wouldn't make me feel ill afterwards!

Maybe people stay thin because they don't have time to eat enough!

I really like your vending machine game and I'm excited that you're trying new things, even if he isn't!

I love shopping in foreign grocery stores!

Aquarius is awesome! You should also try Pocari Sweat (no joke). I used to drink it all the time. It tastes like Gatorade Frost.

Your co-worker needs a smacking. By the way, I think that he meant to say "Ja mata ne" which is essentially "see you later".

I will try to think of amusing things that you can get him to eat or things try to say that he will butcher in amusing ways.

He was trying to repeat something i just said... which makes it sad... if he had been bringing it up later, i wouldn't have had such sadness from his sounds.

On the Flintstones, didn't they have a bell for lunch too? Or was it just for going home?
